18-30 Erskine Avenue Construction

Update: November 22, 2017

Shoring lagging work and excavation continue to progress.  In the excavated area, we are installing tiebacks and forming our internal staging area. As stated previously, we anticipate shoring and excavation to be completed in late Fall 2017, weather permitting.

To facilitate shoring and tiebacks along Erskine Avenue, KG has obtained a temporary street occupation permit to close the sidewalk and curb lane at our site from Monday November 6 to the end of December.

During the closure, two-way traffic is to be maintained at all times in the eastbound lane on Erskine Avenue. There are two full-time certified traffic controllers to control traffic for our site; they will stop vehicular traffic to allow pedestrians to walk through the closure.

Once again, we would like to remind the John Fisher Junior Public School Community that the designated vehicular drop-off area by JFJPS is the Kiss and Ride area on Keewatin Avenue. In addition, alternative walking routes include using Keewatin Avenue or walking along the south side of Erskine Avenue and crossing at Redpath Avenue.

To ensure everyone's safety, the 18-30 Erskine construction site is private property, any unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited and illegal.

It is important to note that there are multiple construction and building rehabilitation projects in the immediate vicinity on Erskine Avenue, Redpath Avenue, Broadway Avenue and Roehampton Avenue. Truck traffic for the other projects are not regulated and frequently access and egress via Erskine Avenue passing in front of John Fisher Junior Public School. We continue to observe trucks for other projects parking and idling on Erskine Avenue. Traffic and construction activities for these sites are completely not related to the development at 18-30 Erskine.

Sincerely,

KG Group

Update: November 8, 2017

Safety always has been and continues to be our number one priority. We want to take this opportunity to reiterate how critically important the safety of students and parents is to us. So much so in fact that at a recent community meeting, the TDSB, City officials and ratepayers all commented that our performance to date on the project has been exemplary.

On November 7 at around 3:30pm, video footage of the site gate was taken by someone.

Our construction superintendent was in the process of closing down the site at the time and was giving instruction to a contractor inside the gate. Unfortunately, the individual who captured the video footage did not realize that our site superintendent was in fact on site. Importantly, the video clearly shows that there is an additional security safely fence surrounding the construction site itself. Please call 1-855-333-3308 to report immediate safety concerns.

As a further preventative measure, in the months ahead, safety guard presence will be extended beyond site closure to include school pick-up times.

We remain 100% committed to ensuring that parent issues and concerns are addressed in a very timely manner. We have and will continue to respond to all email and phone calls promptly. We must emphasize that none of the emails or phone calls received have been related to immediate safety concerns.

Sidewalk closure will commence on November 9, 2017 at 9am. During the closure, two-way traffic is to be maintained at all times in the eastbound lane on Erskine Avenue. There are two full-time certified traffic controllers to control traffic for our site; they will stop vehicular traffic to allow pedestrians to walk through the closure.
